As with the launch of any PlayStation console, Namco has yet again stepped up to the launch line-up plate with another Ridge Racer.

So what's it like; well if your familiar with the past Ridge Racers, then it's pretty much more of the same, although there are a few differences to be had here and there, starting with the graphic enhances that come with a more powerful system; there are quite a few new lighting effects introduces, such as fast changes in lighting when leaving tunnels causing a nice effect of the light level changing; as well as the sun's glare as you drive along, increasing as you boost. Then there's the obvious higher resolution graphics, making the environments look a little nicer and the cars a little more detailed.

Gameplay wise it's as you would expect, the drifting mechanic that makes the series the stylish racer it is remains, however it can now be tweaked by the player, giving you a little more control over the style of drift you want on each car you drive. Also there is a new dynamic audio system that evolves the sound as you continue to race.

One of the more important things to note with this latest game though is the decision to make the base game light on content; in other words there are less cars and less tracks then there normally would be in a Ridge Racer title. Instead they have opted to expand the game though a series of DLC packs that will become available in the near future, this of course means paying more money for additional content, but at least they have also lowered the price of the base game to counter this.
